The end of the E-Cat story? Andrea Rossi loses supporters for his "cold fusion" device

The story of the E-Cat, the "cold fusion" device proposed by Mr. Andrea Rossi seems to be losing interest everywhere. Yesterday, Jan 14, another of Rossi's supporters, Mr. Daniele Passerini, announced that he is abandoning the fray and closing down his blog, at least for the time being.

Mr Passerini's blog, titled "22 steps of love" has been the main focus of support for the E-Cat in Italy up to now. He says in his last post, titled "ad maiora" that "Some time ago, I wrote that, after that two years would have passed from the date of January 14 2011, I would quit in any case in the absence of official and certain announcements on the reality of the E-Cat." Passerini states that he will be waiting patiently and "will return when the news that we have been waiting for during the past two years will arrive"

The closing of Mr. Passerini's blog comes after that, in November of last year, another of Mr. Rossi's supporters, Mr. Paul Story of "eCatNews" declared that he would close his  blog because, "with scant hope of Rossi delivering on his promises, I find myself wondering why I would waste any more time on him. If he is committing fraud, he should be pursued by the police. Interest in the man or the subject is now relegated to the level of curiosity, not dedication."

Earlier on, in April 2012, Mr. Sterling Allen of the blog PESN (Pure Energy Systems) had been appalled at Rossi's behavior and had stated, "I apologize to anyone that I've encouraged to try and do business with Andrea Rossi, and I retract my endorsement" even though he later continued to cover announcements about the E-Cat. (*)

The supporters of the E-Cat are still numerous and the marketing techniques of Mr. Rossi have generated a remarkable number of imitators. So, what we are seeing is not likely to be the end of the story. However, these defections are a clear symptom that the interest in the E-Cat is winding down. After two years of impossible claims, missed demonstrations, broken promises, and unverifiable endorsements, no other outcome was possible.

(*)Mr. Sterling Allen commented on this post stating that "But a few months after that I felt he (Rossi) was back on a better track, and worth giving my confidence in again... Though I don't know for sure, I have a high extent of confidence in Rossi and his group.

    1. So far, it is still not a verified new energy source. The previous shows of verification are not adequate to prove that it works. I would like to see the research continue so that a new source of energy may be found.

  2. A really very sad story. I recall all the harrassment I suffered around my piece on E-cat's false promises. I wonder if all the people who hurried in criticizing me (instead of what I said) will learn the lesson and the next time they will not fall in the same trap.

    1. Antonio, some people will never learn. It is not over - there will be more claims of free energy wonders and more attacks against evil unbelievers.

Sometimes I have a feeling that we are trying to stop the tsunami by plugging the hole in the dam with a finger.

  3. The story of why I became upset with Rossi is found at http://pesn.com/2012/03/11/9602054_Rossi_Tells_Florida_Bureau_He_Has_No_Factory_No_Nuclear_Reactions/

But a few months after that I felt he was back on a better track, and worth giving my confidence in again.

The above account downplays my reversion to having hope that he will pull through. Though I don't know for sure, I have a high extent of confidence in Rossi and his group.

  5. The E-Cat might be a scam, but there's also a post on cryptogon of a similar device made by an MIT professor that should be a genuine overunity device. But will this change our predicament? That might be an interesting study...

  7. The E-cat story will not end because a Blogger is tired of waiting. This isn't a movie. Get real. What Rossi and all of the LENR entrepreneurs are attempting to do will change our entire energy paradigm, no easy task, no matter who you are. Also the story isn't only about the e-cat. Its Defkalion, Brillouin Energy, Jet Energy, Mitsubishi, Toyota, SPAWAR, DARPA, CERN, NASA. Rossi is the one who has captured peoples attention because he is such a character... Just like Tesla, Einstein ... and all the other people who changed our lives forever. The LENR story is not Rossi and it will not end with him but he will certainly be part of the history.

    1. You may be right. On the other hand, I thought that these news were interesting enough to deserve mention. Anyhow, there is no change: as you see from the previous comments, the faithful are not going to change their mind.

  9. As usual Bardi understood nothing.
    First of all he isn't able to read what Passerini wrote and this is strange because he is Italian and Passerini writes in Italian, ad hence I think that Bardi pretends to not understand correctly;
secondary he thinks that a project, an idea and several years of development should cease only because a blogger has a problem with his family. What a stupid idea, it's like to think that the CERN stops activities because the editor of Nature or Science has got a flu.
This simplistic and childish way to comment news coming from the world is a clear signal about the accuracy and reliability of a person.

Big news are coming within days about the E-Cat. Will see if you will write another fake fiction on this blog.

    2. Anonymous, I can tell you that I understand Italian much better than you, and that it is you who misunderstood Passerini's post. Read it carefully, and he says that - yes - he had family problems or whatever, but that the reason why he decided to stop blogging was that he had said that he would wait until a certain date and then, in the absence of proof about Rossi's claims he would quit. He did - for a while. Now he is back to blogging. That should make you happy; too bad that we didn't see the "big news" that should have come "within days". Still waiting.......

    4. Just as the others have said: I'm still waiting too.

You said 'within days'...it's 18 may now, 4 months later...still nothing. I guess you misspoke and meant months instead of days? ;-)

  10. Mr Bardi you have deliberately omitted part of Mr Passerini's announcement:

You have taken his message out of context and ignored the fact that he closed his blog for personal and family reasons. The E-Cat, according to his blog played a significantly small part in his decision.

I shall take the liberty in inviting you into making your disclosures with full transparency, to avoid any misunderstanding. All of this isn't helping your credibility.

  13. dear professor bardi: I read Andrea rossi's biography posted on steven krivits site New energy times and also newspaper reports on the petrodragon affair Rossi's explanation of what happened differs markedly from the newspaper articles.... Is rossi's biography accurate? or what actually happened Was he set up , was oil from garbage actually produced Thanks for your help

    1. The whole story can be read in Italian newspapers. Basically, what Krivit says is correct. For my part I can add that Rossi claimed that he could simply heat up garbage and get oil from it. This is impossible - all what he did to distill a dangerous mix of solvents and organic substances out of industrial waste. Not only it was not oil, it was really dangerous stuff.

  14. Instead to engage in this Herculean task of "change our entire energy paradigm", it would be suffice if Rossi’d give some really independent evidences of the working of his device, instead to waste the time of all, with absurd announcements and fake trials.
Last of the long list, his announcement of some months ago that he had sold e-cat in Europe and accepted advance booking, just to say, some days ago, that he discovered that he can't sell the device without official testing and approbation , and, strangely, authorities are not so keen to give them without serious, independent testing of efficiency and safety (following Rossi's official site statements, e-cat should emits gamma rays...how could it be quietly installed in homes and industries!?).
    It is a joke...

  15. Rossi's contribution may be that he stimulated research. I believe he is deluded by inaccurate data. However, there are numerous natural phenomena that defy explanation by physicists. Perhaps he is partially correct. Nuclear science is only about 120 years old. It is a work in progress.

  16. I don't want to say, "I told you so." Wait yes I do! I tried to tell people on the E-Cat blogs and sites that it was all a scam/hoax, but the idiots wouldn't listen. They were too wrapped up in their little LENR religion to see the truth.

  17. Physical scientists have known all along that this was a scam. But Rossi has cleverly played on the trust of people to whom this is not so obvious. Therein lies his crime.

  20. I've tried using the facts and logic and common sense to argue at length that Rossi's claims and behavior are absurd. To little avail. No more arguments, just a very ungentlemanly "I told you so". The man is a scam artist. Always was, always will be. Those of you who still don't get it, probably never will, alas. Very little he says makes any sense, but for some strange reason many of you seem to think he's a genius. I, for one (a legitimately successful international inventor), don't think he is even very intelligent. Crafty, yes, but not intelligent. I'm done with him and all you stubborn believers. Goodbye.

  21. I put people's belief down to a rogue gene the same one that makes people believe in religion when there is no proof. These type of people just can't seem to see the scam when it's so obvious to others.

    1. Genes are real stuff. You have no more basis to put forth a wild hypothesis about them than Rossi does about the stuff in his machines.

    1. Ah, the media will go with whatever is popular and get them readers, and, in fact, they never actually say there is proof of it; it's just repetition of what others have said, or speculation. As for Rossi, they say: "THE TESTS OF THE THIRD INDIPENDENT PARTY HAVE BEEN COMPLETED YESTERDAY. I DID NOT ATTEND, THEREFORE I DO NOT KNOW EXACTLY THE RESULTS, THAT WILL SURELY BE PUBLISHED BY THE EXAMINATORS, PROBABLY AROUND THE HALF OF APRIL." (Rossi) We are now way past April. Where is this 'independent research', I ask you? How long, I mean, really, how long are you guys going to wait and believe this joke? Id there ANY point in time, ANY amount of unproven statements and broken promises of Rossi that will ever let you see the truth and realise it's nothing more than a scam, intended for naive suckers?

If I'm cynical, I would say: probably not. However, you have *some* who finally see the truth: http://ecatnews.com/?p=2490

One think I noted, though; it was saying: 'The e-cat for domestic use will hit the market next month, on Februrary 2013'. We're now the 18th of May...where are all these promised e-cats for domestic use?

I predict that Rossi now will gain a few followers.
