Dust Bowl redubbed. Funnily enough, back then in 1930 the US recognized the effect of man's hand in aggravating the problem and reverted many wrong policies (e.g., replanting trees in the Big Central Plains to act as wind breakers).
Yes, Antonio, it is deja vu all over. I read the book "The Worst hard time" by Timothy Egan. (http://www.amazon.com/Worst-Hard-Time-Survived-American/dp/061834697X). It is was the same in the 1930s and, yes, at that time the government took the initiative and did a lot of work to redress the situation. But we humans tend to forget very rapidly...
Impressive, but there was the "dust bowl" during the great depression also, although you could probably say that this was already due to human modifications of nature/landscape.
